Why Bee Friendly?
A pollinator describes a large group of small animals that use plant nectar and pollen as a source of food, fertilizing flowers as they feed. It is estimated that 80 per cent of the world’s flowering plants rely on pollinators to reproduce, which includes 90 common fruit and vegetable crops consumed by people.
Pollinator populations across North America and the world appear to have declined in the past 10 years. The factors behind this decline are still under study, but the harmful effects of pesticides and other chemistry used in agriculture, and loss of suitable habitat to increasing urban development, are seen as leading causes.
